Marie Curie
1867–1934Curie organized mobile radiography and trained operators during the First World War.
Building on established X-ray technology, Curie helped equip radiological vehicles and fixed installations for wartime hospitals, trained operators, and personally supported front-line radiography. The vehicles—later known as petites Curies—brought X-ray equipment closer to wounded soldiers instead of requiring every patient to travel to a distant hospital. Her work illustrates how scientific knowledge becomes clinically useful through training, logistics, maintenance, and practical engineering.
